The event will take place on the 31st of October (Thursday), at 18:00 o’clock, in the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv, with the musical participation of organist Nadezhda Kuzmanova and actor Petar Toskov.
The extraordinary story of Vaklush Tolev is told via photos and text on 376 pages in the photo album “Vaklush”. A large part of the more than 160 photographs are the work of the photographer Lubomir Andreev and are being published for the first time. They have exceptional documentary value, as they trace the life of Vaklush Tolev in the period 1989-2013 and have captured exciting moments from his meetings with dozens of Bulgarian and international personalities. Archive photos from his youth are also included, as well as portraits taken by photographer Yavor Popov. The artist of the album is Adriana Gerasimova.
The publication is a continuation of the documentary film of the same name by the director Nikolay Vassilev – “Vaklush”, which enjoyed great audience interest and was awarded with many prestigious international awards.
With over 100 screenings, Vaklush quickly became one of the most watched documentaries in Bulgaria. The initial version is over three hours long, but a large part of the interviews and conversations with Vaklush Tolev had to be dropped. “It was very difficult for me, because there were such important ideas that could not fit into the limited time of one film,” says the director. This is how the idea was born to include them in a printed edition. “This album is a spiritual treasury, it contains pearls from the bottom of the deepest oceans as well as gems from the highest mountains of the human soul. Viewers after the screenings of the documentary tape wanted to read more of the wisdom of Vaklush. I’m glad this can now happen in text form. The visions of “Vaklush” in the album complement the narrative of the film itself. In places, it even sounds like the internal dialogue that a person conducts with God within himself,” says Nikolay Vassilev.
