The Deputy Minister of Culture, Amelia Gesheva, presented the “Museum of the Year” award to the Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum “Eter” – Gabrovo. This happened during an official ceremony in the “Union” hall of the Regional History Museum in Plovdiv, at which the “Bulgarian Museums” Association honored museum institutions for their contribution to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in the past year 2023. The solemn ceremony began immediately after the conclusion of the General Assembly of the Association “Bulgarian Museums”, which was attended by museum directors and specialists from all over the country. They accepted the report on the activities of the Association, the financial report for the past year 2023 and voted on the program and budget for 2024.

Among the official guests at the award ceremony were the Mayor of Plovdiv Municipality Kostadin Dimitrov, the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archeology and Tourism Plamen Panov, Ekaterina Djumalieva – Director of the Directorate “Cultural Heritage, Museums and Fine Arts” in the Ministry of Culture, etc.

The winners of the “Heritage” awards for 2023 were determined by a jury consisting of: Prof. Dr. Vasya Delibaltova – head of the “Didactics” department, “Pedagogy” faculty of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Yaroslava Bubnova – Director of the National Gallery, Associate Professor Sonia Penkova – Director of the National Military History Museum, Ekaterina Djumalieva – Director of the Directorate “Cultural Heritage, Museums and Fine Arts” in the Ministry of Culture, Eleonora Avdzhieva – Director of the Museum of Folk Art Crafts and Applied Arts – Troyan.

In the “Events and work with audiences” category, the prize was awarded to the “Veliki Preslav” Archaeological Museum for the project: “The new glow of Simeon’s Golden Age”. The award was presented by the mayor of Plovdiv Municipality, Kostadin Dimitrov.

In the “Educational initiative” category, the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv was awarded for the project: “Adventures with Argir” – a children’s educational book. The award was presented by the Chairman of the Board of the Association “Bulgarian Museums” Boris Hadjiyski.

The “Museum of the Year” award for 2023 was awarded to the Regional Open Air Ethnographic Museum “Eter” – Gabrovo for the project: “REMO “Eter” – a museum for creative cultural tourism”.

For the eighth year in a row, the Association of Bulgarian Museums recognizes museum institutions for their contribution to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of our country. The Heritage Awards of the Association of Bulgarian Museums were established in 2016 and are the first institutionally established awards that celebrate best practices in museums for the previous year.
