A discussion on re-evaluating the standards related to the preservation of valuables in museums

The issue of energy saving is expanding its scope more and more. Museums cannot stay out of it. On September 6, 2022, the French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak calls on French professionals and the international museum community to tackle problems related to air conditioning in museums and the preservation of collections. The French National Committee of ICOM organizes a discussion on the reassessment of standards related to the preservation of valuables in museums. How can we continue to preserve our heritage while taking into account today’s harsh realities? Is maintaining the status quo in this area still an option? How can we change our ways of thinking without sacrificing the preservation of the sites we care for for future generations? On December 13, 2022, in an online meeting on the topic « Towards new conservation standards in museums? » speakers from France, ICOM, ICOMOS and NEMO discuss the need for changes.
