Opening: December 4, 2024, 5:30 PM

The Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Coppersmithing – Ancient and Eternal”, which will be presented on December 4, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the museum.

The exhibition will immerse you in the deep traditions and history of the coppersmithing craft – an art that combines aesthetics and functionality and conveys the spirit of Bulgarian masters throughout the centuries.

Through authentic exhibits, engraved vessels and archival materials, we will trace the development of coppersmithing, which in the 18th century reached distant markets in the Orient, including the famous bazaar in Cairo. You will see how Bulgarian coppersmiths have woven local traditions with influences from Damascus, Baghdad and Constantinople, creating products with a clean form and symbolic decoration inspired by Bulgarian embroideries.

Among the highlights of the exhibition is the engraved blue – a symbol of family cohesion, and exhibits related to traditional fairs and trade tours of master coppersmiths.

The exhibition “Coppersmithing – Ancient and Eternal” is a tribute to the eternal power of the craft and the importance of coppersmiths – guardians of traditions, active participants in public life and even in revolutionary movements.

We look forward to discovering together the richness of the Bulgarian spirit and cultural heritage!
