The old “Deli Hamam” bathhouse in Lovech is an architectural and construction monument of national importance. It is believed to be the last Turkish hammam used as a hygienic bath in the country.
The water for bathing came via a water pipe from the Lipaka area near Lovech and from two other sources. The water vapor was absorbed by the ventilation ducts. I
n the warm rooms there was a special device on the floors and walls. In the last years of the operation of the hammam, a new method of heating the premises and the water was introduced, by means of a steam engine or so-called locomobile, which was connected to the local water supply network.
The locomobile was produced in England at the beginning of the 20th century by the then famous steam engine company “Clayton & Shuttleworth”. It consists of two parts – a furnace and a water tank. It worked on the principle of a wood boiler.
