Dear colleagues and friends of museums!
In 1977, at its XI General Conference in Moscow, the International Organization of Museums decided to mark the 18th of May as International Museum Day. The first events were next year. From then to today, already 46 years ago, the 18th of May has been permanently inscribed in the life not only of museums, but also of all people and institutions that collect, preserve and promote cultural heritage, of all those who visit museums and enrich their knowledge there, of all those who donate family values for others to admire.
The theme of the International Day in 2024 is “Museums for Education and Research”. It emphasises the ever-increasing role of museums in educating people of different ages, through interesting, emotional and interactive study of the past. This theme puts new emphasis on their important place in research processes. With hard and systematic work, museum specialists contribute to the enrichment of various branches of science. Sometimes they carry out this activity at the expense of their free time, but they do it with love and dedication.
Happy International Museum Day, dear colleagues!
Stay healthy and don’t forget that by working in museums you have the privilege of having your work recorded in the memory of time.
