WORD AND IMAGE 20.12.2024 – 25.03.2025 Regional Archaeological Museum – Plovdiv In the beginning was the Word; […] and the Word was God – John 1:1-18 “Word and Image” is a temporary exhibition of the Regional Archaeological Museum – Plovdiv, which presents the reflection of Christianity in the existence, philosophy and overall worldview of man during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance through archaeological finds and Renaissance art.

Among the selected exhibits are a marble baptismal dome from the Episcopal Basilica of Philippopolis (5th century), a throne Gospel from the church “St. John the Baptist”, v. Chechlare (early 19th century), Enthroned Cross of Metropolitan Grigoriy, first Metropolitan of Dorostol and Cherven (19th century), coins brought from the Holy Sepulcher, undisplayed icons of the Holy Metropolis of Plovdiv, a chalice and a standing censer from the collection of the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv.
