Behind the book “Mosaic of the Past of Stara Zagora” are many years of work, curiosity and research from various sources of the events that are presented in it. This was said by its scientific editor, Prof. Sofia Vasileva, PhD, on the occasion of the premiere of the second supplemented edition of the collection, which took place at the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Sofia.
She informed that one of the authors – Prof. Svetla Dimitrova, is also the author of numerous monographs, books, articles, and that she is one of the contemporary researchers of the rich cultural heritage of Stara Zagora.
According to Prof. Sofia Vasileva, Snezhana Marinova, who is the second author of the collection, is a well-known librarian, as well as one of the best contemporary local historians.
According to her, the book includes many emotional, interesting and presented in an entertaining way various stories from the past of Stara Zagora.
The past lives in the present and this is exactly what the reader feels when reading this book, said Prof. Vasileva. The book forms respect for the past, memorable images, she added.
The texts in the book are written vividly, they are written with love, they are written with understanding of all these complex problems that the generations that built Stara Zagora in different periods had to go through, said the rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” Prof. Georgi Valchev. He is the author of the book’s introduction.
The end result is truly a professionally created text, said Prof. Georgi Valchev.
The event was also attended by the authors of the collection Prof. Svetla Dimitrova, director of the Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum “Etar”, and Snezhana Marinova, local historian, researcher and long-time director of the Regional Library “Zahariy Knyazheski”, who announced that a third volume of “Mosaic of the Past of Stara Zagora” is being prepared.
As BTA wrote, the publication collects 107 stories, arranged in seven sections: Landmarks, History between the covers, Personalities, Events, From here to there, Values and the new section Curious facts about Stara Zagora. The book includes an address to the readers by the authors, an introduction by Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev, an emotional essay about the city by Snezhana Marinova, as well as a bibliography with abbreviations, literature and sources.
