The Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum “Etar” presents the travelling exhibition “Women Carry the World” — a striking collection of 42 photographs by the American visual artist Lekha Singh. The series celebrates the strength, dignity, and resilience of women across the globe. The exhibition is being shown in Bulgaria for the first time.
For more than twenty-five years, Lekha Singh has traveled across all continents, documenting human stories from diverse cultural and social contexts — from major metropolises to remote, little-known regions affected by conflict, poverty, and natural disasters. Her photographs capture the delicate balance between struggle and hope, placing the experiences of women and children at the heart of her work.
Singh’s work is highly regarded on the international stage. She has received awards such as “21 Leaders for the 21st Century” from Women’s eNews and the “Women Helping Women” award, recognizing both her contributions to visual art and her commitment to global humanitarian issues.
The exhibition “Women Carry the World” offers a powerful visual and emotional experience, inviting viewers to reflect on the role of women as guardians of life, community, and culture.
