REGIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM – PLOVDIV
invites you to
the exhibition “Living (from) Fabric” – a story about Kotlen carpets
Opening: May 15, 2025, 6:00 p.m. | Free admission
From May 15, 2025 Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv invites the public to an exciting encounter with the textile heritage of Bulgaria – the exhibition “Living (from) Fabric”, dedicated to the masterful making of Kotlen carpets and the transformation of a household craft into art.
Weaving in colours, symbols and personal stories, this exhibition tells the story of women who do not just weave – they preserve memory, create culture and transmit knowledge. Carpets from the museum’s collection and private collections are presented, revealing the diversity and depth of the tradition preserved over generations.
The exhibition is based on a project implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and is accompanied by a rich accompanying program: creative workshops, educational modules, book presentations and concerts. Special attention is paid to the children and school audience through activities such as coloring templates with carpet motifs, solving puzzles, reading fairy tales and painting with natural dyes.
“Living (from) Fabric” shows that a carpet is not just an object – it is a cultural memory, woven into color and thread. This is an exhibition that is experienced – with eyes, hands and heart.
