The project “Heritage with Care – Cultural Memory for People with Dementia”, developed by the NGO Alzheimer Bulgaria in partnership with the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum “Etar”, is among the eight funded proposals under the Headley SEE Cultural Heritage Fund – a program supporting innovative and inclusive initiatives in Southeastern Europe.
Out of 86 applicant organizations from 11 countries, the proposal was recognized for its focus on including people with dementia in cultural life.
The project foresees the creation of adapted museum programs, training for museum staff, the development and publication of a digital handbook with practical guidelines and good practices for working with people with dementia in a museum environment, as well as other activities aimed at inclusion and understanding.
Acknowledged by the committee as “innovative”, the project demonstrates how cultural heritage can become a tool for social inclusion, preserving dignity, and raising public awareness.
